Civezza Parish of St. Mark the Evangelist

In Civezza, a precious 18th-century instrument once again takes center stage in local cultural life. The historic pipe organ preserved in the Parish Church of Saint Mark the Evangelist will be the focus of the Concert of the Festivities, an event that weaves together early music, European traditions, and a broader cultural heritage enhancement project promoted by the parish.

The concert will take place on January 3, 2026, starting at 5:00 PM, and will feature the Trio Mormorè – Stella Splendens, composed of Gianna Williams, Cristina Rovaldi, and Pier Carlo Cardinali. Admission is free. The program offers a musical journey dedicated to the Christmas season, ranging from the medieval repertoire of the Cantigas de Santa Maria to sacred and popular compositions from various regions of Europe.

The performance will be presented using historical and traditional instruments, including Celtic harp, mountain dulcimer, guitar, piva emiliana, flutes, hurdy-gurdy, and voices, creating a rich dialogue of languages, sounds, and cultures connected to the Christmas tradition.

Donations collected during the event will contribute to funding the restoration of the parish organ. The instrument, associated with the Genoese organ-building school, dates back to the late 18th century and is attributed to the Ciurlo family, prominent organ builders active in Santa Margherita Ligure and of Genoese origin. During the 19th century, the organ underwent mechanical modifications to its stops, reflecting the musical tastes of the time.

The current restoration project aims to return the instrument to its original configuration by removing later additions and recovering its historical technical and acoustic characteristics.
